“Who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:16

Husbands and wives can come to know one another, actually quite well, over time. However, they cannot comprehend one another. Best selling books abound in an attempt to help males and females understand what makes the opposite sex tick. But God’s incomprehensibility is the ultimate challenge. We can say this much and it is important. God may be known, but we can never understand God fully or exhaustively. We are told that He dwells in unapproachable light. God’s incomprehensibility sends us to His knowability. The helplessness of the human mind must come humbly to what God has revealed about Himself in the only book He has written, the Bible. First of all, we are to know about God, His attributes, what pleases Him and displeases Him, His commands, His promises. Here is where we get our traction. Knowing about God is to lead us to know God. The key is to know Christ (Jn. 14:7). That is where God can be seen. Are we who are Christians growing in our knowledge of God? People who know their God will know who they are and where they are going. They will not be enamored with the comforts and toys of this life, but rather see life as the opportunity to prepare for eternity. Jesus said that it is the pure in heart who shall see God (Matt. 5:8). Draw near to God and be genuine in your Christian walk. Talk to Him with all the stops pulled out. There is something to be seen of God with the mind’s eye. H
