The Creator or Mother Nature?

“Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!” Psalm 148:3

Wise observers are telling us that we live in a post-Judeo-Christian world. There was a time when a biblical worldview sat at the right hand of the culture. In a rapidly changing culture the Creator God has been replaced by eco-worship, climate change theology, and “Mother Nature.” Earth is now our goddess mother. Neo-paganism is capturing the world of entertainment. If the movie “Avatar: The Way of Water” is any indication, millions are awash in what is described by Collin Garbarino as “promoting eco-worship…yet its visuals are stunning.” God’s covenant people, Israel, lived in a neighborhood of nations that was totally sold out to evolutionary pantheism , worshipping the creation instead of the Creator (Rom. 1:20-25). Israel was warned time and again about the morally corrupting dangers of bowing their knees to nature (Deut. 4:19; 17:3). The psalmist calls on the heavens and the earth to praise God. Theologian R.C. Sproul, now with the Lord, unmasks the myth of Mother Nature: “There is no such ‘mother’ as Mother Nature. Nature itself is powerless to produce life of any kind. In itself, nature is barren. The power to produce life resides in the Author of nature – God. To substitute nature as the source of life is to confuse the creature with the Creator. All forms of nature worship are acts of idolatry that are desirable to God.” The first of the Ten Commandments speaks loudly and clearly, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Ex. 20:3).

“High King of heaven and earth, keep me from the deceptions of evolution and climate catastrophism. The splendors of day and night declare your glory.”
