Herd-Bound

“You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice.” Exodus 23:2

Many have been entertained by scenes of cattle stampedes in Western movies. In real life they can be very dangerous. Human herds can be even more deadly when it is a majority of people headed in the wrong direction morally and spiritually. Ancient Israel’s moral compass was set by God; Do not follow a multitude to do evil or be influenced by the majority in the pursuit of injustice. It’s a morally toxic mix to combine the human desire to be accepted by the masses while being swept along by an evil cause. Evil causes have abounded in popularity: Slavery, segregation, killing babies in the womb, hatred of Jews because they are Jews, mobs that loot and burn, and the greatest evil of all, going through the wide gate and the easy way that leads to destruction (Matt. 7:13-14). It takes courage to dissent from the immoral majority. The cancel culture exerts great pressure to create conformity to wicked and God-rejecting ideology. The threat of physical harm, financial ruin, and loss of reputation leads the weak over the cliff to societal suicide. The Jesus of the Bible said that He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). He is the only “way” to God. The worst evil imaginable is to be part of the majority dying and going out into eternity as unforgiven sinners without eternal life.

“O holy and righteous God, work in me the moral and spiritual courage to stand against herd-bound unbelief and that I would never be ashamed of the gospel.”
