“And they began to salute him, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.” Mark 15:18-19

It’s Friday. Sunday is Coming. The Lord Jesus Christ suffering abuse from multiple evil sources. Satan, demons, religious, and political authorities heaped mockery upon the King of kings and Lord of lords.
“The heavy whip brought down with full force again and again across Jesus’ shoulders, back and legs. At first the heavy thongs cut through the skin only. Then, as the blows continue, they cut deeper into the subcutaneous tissues, producing first an oozing of blood from the capillaries and veins of skin, and finally spurting arterial bleeding from vessels in the underlying muscles….Finally the skin of the back is hanging in long ribbons and the entire area is an unrecognizable mass of torn, bleeding tissue.” C. Truman Davis
Dear friend, such a flogging for our sins, what we deserved. Also, in the fury and pain on the cross, the wrath of God fell upon the Savior.
“The Crucified King”
“Twas I that shed the sacred blood; I nailed him to the tree; I crucified the Christ of God; I joined in the mockery.
Of all that shouting multitude I feel that I am one; And in that din of voices rude I recognize my own.
Around the cross the throng I see, Mocking Sufferer’s groan; Yet still my voice it seems to be, As if I mocked alone.”
Horatious Bonar (1808-89), the prince of Scottish hymn-writers.
