“Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.” Proverbs 10:6-7

Wisdom tells us that we reap what we sow. It’s Spring. Weeds and grass are making their appearance. It’s all a matter of sowing and reaping. Don’t brush or floss your teeth as a habit and see what happens. Drive your car months on end without any servicing. See what happens. Solomon doesn’t mince words. Real prosperity can’t be measured in material terms. Under the Mosaic Covenant material blessing was promised to Israel for obedience. A curse was pronounced on disobedience (Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28). The truth of the matter is that our deeds, our chosen way of living, have consequences. In Solomon’s Israel the righteous contributed to the prosperity of the entire community. The wicked, those who turn their back on God’s law, produce a moral crop of violence, brutality, and dishonesty. In our nation we are witnessing a crop of evils: Mass murders, calamitous drug addiction, sanctioned surgeries that attempt to reverse one’s biological sex, flagrant robberies that make it necessary for businesses to close their doors. Communities reap what they sow. People get the kind of government they deserve. We are yet to see the full consequences of our national climb up fool’s hill. As Christians we can make a difference. Sow a thought, reap an action, sow an action, reap a habit, sow a habit, reap a character, sow a character, reap a destiny. Put God-honoring, biblical legs on sowing on the daily decisions we make. This is called the Christian walk. Resolve to live your life God’s way and see what kind of crop you get.
