Fighting Fear

“Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!” Psalm 34:9

God’s way for us in fighting fear is a better fear. That better fear is the fear of God. This is not a cowering before His power and waiting to be smacked if we do the wrong thing. Fearing God is knowing that we live before a Holy God who is infinite in His greatness and goodness. David had his flaws, but we can say this, above all things he wanted to please God. Accountability, knowing who God is, love for Him, and obedience. This is the fear that removes all others (Psa. 34:11-12). It hates sin, knows that God is aware of our needs, and has no fear of death. The fear of the Lord is not a guarantee that life will be easy. Our fears tell a lot about us, revealing our allegiances, who or what controls us, and how deeply our allegiance is to Jesus Christ.
