Memorial Day Prayer

“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that they may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2

It was recently reported that “a British artist and 500 volunteers went to the Normandy beaches to commemorate the 9,000 Soldiers who died there. It was done in silhouette which the tide eventually washed away. Freedom is not free – and never has been.” Is our nation worth dying for? On this Memorial Day the dead speak from their graves that America has been worth the sacrifice. The United States of America has its moral failings. It has tolerated slavery and other social evils. But anti-Americanism foments a hatred which challenges the Judeo-Christian foundations on which our republic was built. On this Memorial Day pray that good rulers will arise who will influence our nation toward good conduct. Pray that evil leaders and schemes will be restrained. The purpose of human government is to create the conditions that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. John Adams, one of our Founding Fathers, said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and righteous people. It is wholly inadequate for the governance of any other.” Let us thank God for those who have loved the ideal for which our nation was born. May their sacrifice not be in vain.
