The Coronation of the King

“I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you. . . .You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.’” Psa. 2:7,9

The coronation of the King of England was an elaborate affair. So much of Scripture was woven through it. But there is a coronation that is infinitely greater in meaning and glory. The Son of God declares His sovereign right to rule because He conquered sin and death. He has the right to the throne. God the Father speaks to and through David to David’s greater Son, Jesus Christ. The language is absolutely stunning. “Today I have begotten you.” This is a reference to the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (Acts 13:33). In the resurrection Jesus acquired a glorified human body and thereby was installed into the Messianic office. The King inherits the kingdom from His Father. The rulers and the so-called elite of this world continue to resist, but this does not daunt us. As kingdom citizens, believers in Jesus Christ, we go forth throughout the world and herald the message that every knee shall bow. This is where history is going. Get on the glory train, dear Christian. Speak the truth to all. The King is coming. All rebellion will be put down by the Lord’s Anointed.

“All praise goes to you, O Lord. Political campaigns and all the big talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion are as uneducated nursery rhymes compared to the grandeur of the gospel message.”
