“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31

Six times in the first chapter of Genesis God declared His creation work as good. Then after everything in the universe had been brought into existence by the Lord Jesus Christ (Col. 1:16), the grand pronouncement was made. It was all “exceedingly good.” In the words of Dr. John C. Whitcomb: “The Bible informs us that the perfection of the early earth was an appropriate reflection of man’s original fellowship with his Creator….But man rebelled against his gracious Creator and the earth was transformed into its present pattern of frustration, suffering, and death” (The Early Earth). With this in mind, an overview of the Christian and the modern environmental movement is in order. Since all things came into being by Jesus Christ (Jn. 1:3), He is exalted as we think and worship Him by what Scripture reveals about our marvelous planet. (1) Creation exists to proclaim the glory of God (Psa. 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God, the sky displays his handiwork.”). There is nothing inherently sinful or evil or unspiritual about the physical world. The creation has value, not because humans ascribe value to it, but because the Triune God created it and it has eternal value to Him. What role did the splendor of the night sky have in your conversion? Are you one of the many who has been awed by pondering the stars, “If Creation, then there is a Creator”? If possible look at the display of Christ’s glory in tonight’s sky.
