“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

A student must make a good grade on an exam to pass the course. A young lady who desires to lose weight begins to induce vomiting. A man who works in sales has to travel to distant cities which require overnights in hotels. The bars and night life offer a place to relax and relieve the stress. These are a few descriptive situations where temptations lurk in the shadows. The Corinthian Christians lived in a city and culture which was swarming with temptations to immorality. The magnetic pull from within to do evil is everyone’s battle. In what has become a flagship Bible verse to encourage believers to win the battle with the powerful attraction of disobedience to God, we have truth by which to live. God allows trials to enter the life of a Christian, and riding on the back of tests are temptations. God is not in the business of enticing us to sin (Jas. 1:13). Our own sinful inclinations are always ready to draw us into a place we should not go. That place may be someone not our spouse, a drug that creates a pleasure that demands further experiences. Perhaps there is a temptation that is threatening you right now. God knows exactly what we can and cannot take. Ask Him right now to keep you from falling.
