“The poor is disliked even by his neighbor, but the rich has many friends.” Proverbs 14:20

Wisdom tells us that popularity is not the measure of one’s character. How many “friends” one may have on Facebook or how many “likes” you get on one of your better selfies is not the measure of friendship reality. The apostle James rebukes the church that gives preferential treatment to attendees while snubbing those who don’t have much to give (Jas. 2:1-11). We live in a celebrity culture that heaps endless attention and praise upon those deemed important. Sinful human pride parades through out living rooms in political robes and ideological visionaries who claim to know what is best for us. But back to the person we see in the mirror. As Jesus humbled Himself, He didn’t come wrapped in robes of splendor. It was who He was and what He had come to do that was most important. Pray for the youth you know that they will not fall into the trap of “loving” those who make us feel good and ignore those sit on the benches of life.
