“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” Ephesians 6:10

Power is the ability to do and act. As has been noted, we as Christians have been given our call to arms (“Put on the full armor of God”). Satan’s evil schemes are built around stealth and deception. In order to advance for Christ on the battlefield of life, we need the God-given ability to be effective. It is of special interest that in the book of Ephesians there are six power passages. God is there with power and it can be communicated to the believer. It is available, free, limitless, from the Spirit, internal, and productive (Eph. 1:17-19; 3:16-20, 6:10). The world, the flesh, and the devil do not have to rule over us. Resurrection power is put at the believer’s disposal. Is there a sinful habit that slaps you around? Are you having a difficult time forgiving someone? Do you have a short anger fuse? Has your marriage become an unhappy one? We have the Holy Spirit within who works internally to make it possible for us to change and give us a new outlook on life contrary to the old way of looking at things. Where does God fit into the way I relate to my spouse, how I conduct myself in traffic, how I think about and pray for those with same sex desires? The way that God has equipped us and the power He provides should enable us to live in ways that are humanly inexplicable.

“My God shall be my strength
Throughout my pilgrim way;
My sure defense, my guard, my guide,
My shield and stay;
Secure in Him my heart is strong
And lifts aloft faith’s triumph song.”
