“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6:17

The Christian warrior must know how to think in responding to difficulties, in exercising discernment, and planning for the future. Learn from how Satan launched his attack against Adam and Eve (Gen. 3:1-6). The Evil One uses appealing people to engage in his deception. He creates doubt about God’s character and God’s Word, denies God’s Word, and promises what he can’t provide. As the devil attacked Jesus in the wilderness, so will he come after us when we are physically weary and would love nothing better than to get us to give up our mission for Christ. The Roman soldier wore a “cap” made of leather and medal with a cushioned inner lining. Our attention is drawn to the head, to the mind, to the brain, the understanding, the thinking of the Christian. A top priority is to not allow discouragement to draw us down mentally. What does it take to stop you (2 Tim. 4:7; Isa. 40:29-31)? God’s salvation from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and one day from the presence of sin provides protection in our thought processes by the hope of glory. We can put on the helmet of salvation by reminding ourselves of the eternal compensation for our momentary afflictions (2 Cor. 4:16,17), by reminding ourselves of the keeping power of God. We can be sure of His undying love, and by reading the Bible through. Are you setting your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth (Col. 3:1-2)?
