“In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.” Ephesians 1:11

Did you know that the Bible teaches that God has one specific plan for your life. Included in that plan are the events and choices of your life. In case you wondered, this plan has all your mistakes, blindnesses, and sins. We know this truth as the providence of God. The humbling part of this is that we can’t know this plan in advance. It can’t be frustrated and it is perfect. That doesn’t mean we are perfect. It means that God makes no mistakes. All our “why” questions ultimately must have the same answer – our loving God in His sovereign wisdom willed it so. You say, are we then left to a suffocating determinism? Don’t we have the freedom to make genuine decisions? The wonderful mystery of it all is that God has revealed in His Word what we need to know to please Him. His moral will must be learned and obeyed. However, it can be “missed” through ignorance or disobedience. Thank God that the guidance He gives to us is like a guardrail on a mountain highway. Are you driving carefully?

“O Father, You are sovereign in all the worlds You made; Your mighty Word was spoken, and light and life obeyed. Your voice commands the seasons and bounds the ocean’s shore, Sets stars within their courses and stills the tempests’ roar.” Margaret Clarkson
