Surprised

“With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you.” 1 Peter 4:4

They just don’t get It. Get what? The non-Christian thinks that Christian conversion is very strange. The words of Festus, upon hearing the apostle Paul speaking the truth of the gospel to him, said, “you are out of your mind” (Acts 26:24). Not only are we believers viewed with suspicion by the unbelieving mindset, we are deemed to be crazy (Have you heard the word “phobia” lately?). The natural man (unsaved) is incapable of seeking God, knowing God, and obeying God. What is really strange is that the non-Christian won’t think it strange to ruin their bodies, destroy their homes, and wreck their lives. Be that as it may, expect the truth of the gospel and the radical moral change it produces to be belittled, the butt of jokes, and viewed as some sort of mental illness. What’s a Christian to do? Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated and drawn into sin in order to be accepted. Don’t attempt to dumb-down biblical truth. Be patient, pray for non-believers. They don’t understand because they are spiritually blind. Don’t cut yourself off from those who don’t understand you. Be kind and look for opportunities to witness with your life and words to the saving power of Jesus Christ.
