“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:11

The scene is absolutely riveting. Revelation 4 and 5 give us the divine perspective on the judgment which comes upon the earth in Revelation 6-20. The book of Revelation was written to encourage saints who were living under the dark clouds of persecution. Evil seemed to be reigning. God and His greatness should put our thoughts upward toward the Ruler of the universe. The first thing John sees is the throne of God the Father set up for the purpose of judgment. From the throne come flashes of lightning and peals of thunder. There are burning torches and the worshipful song of the living creatures and the twenty-four elders. The visual and audible displays are a manifestation of the glory of God. Fire symbolizes judgment. This entire scene is one of battle preparation. It is “divine preparedness for the battle against wickedness.” We see God’s wrath getting ready to break out against sinful humanity. At this time Satan continues to instigate attempts to destroy the Jew. Our own government celebrates independence from God. We must learn to worship God for His attributes, not simply for what He does for us. Make this Advent season the celebration of the birth of the King of kings and Lord of lords. Don’t let commercial glitz and glitter become the music of your soul. Find ways to give God the ovation He deserves along with the heavenly court and its crescendo of praise (Rev. 4:9-11).
