“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped.” Philippians 2:5-6

We live in a time when everything is reduced to power and politics. This has come about because of the abandonment of a belief in God, objective truth, and divinely fixed morality. We are left with nothing but raw power. The one who becomes the king of the mountain wins. Those who achieve the status of victimhood and are awarded the merit badges of grievances hold the scepter of final authority. Power and authority are transferred to victims. Bleak, is it not? But this is where we are going. Everyone reduced to slavish sameness, dismal equals. This is what is eating away at our social fabric. In contrast to godless authority is the power and authority of Jesus Christ which could not be greater. In order for every knee to ultimately bow to Him, Jesus willingly submitted to the relinquishment of His rights to live in heaven, subordinated Himself to become a servant, and sacrificed Himself on the cross. So He was exalted by God the Father to His session in heaven and crowned with the status of Lordship (Phil. 2:7-9). All disciples of Jesus gladly embrace His example of humility and sacrificial service. This is what the world needs to see. If society is to be changed in any measure, it will come through legions of self-denying, cross-bearing Christians making a difference. Pray that Christ’s people will be a source of grace and mercy to many.
