Mustard Seed Faith

“He said to them, ‘Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.'” Matthew 17:20

Let’s say you are sick, a fever and other miseries. The doctor calls in a prescription for you. You get dressed and go to the pharmacy where you give your name and date of birth. You claim the prescription and take it home. You take the medicine. What has happened here is faith. You have had faith in a person(s). Your knowledge of that person is vital. Assurance and conviction is what is going on. Jesus had to rebuke his disciples because of their lack of faith. A man needed healing and they were inept in the face of the problem. When we heard the truth about Jesus Christ we put our trust in Him. And we should add. We live our lives as Christians by faith, which is taking God at His Word and acting on it. We hear a lot about “people of faith.” What does that mean? It doesn’t tell us what we need to know. “It is impossible to have faith in a person without having knowledge of the person: far from being contrasted with knowledge, faith is founded upon knowledge” (What is Faith, J. Gresham Machen, a must-read book). Important reminder: We don’t generate faith in Christ by the sheer force of our will. The Holy Spirit has to flip the switch of our volition. Are there matters, if you are a Christian, that need obedience right now? Keep your mental focus on Christ, who He is and what He has said.

“But do not confuse faith in your faith with faith in the Savior. Faith has no value of its own, it has value only as it connects us with Him.”
Vance Havner, Day By Day
