“And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.” 1 Samuel 28:6

God can be silent in times of our desperation and for good reason. King Saul had been rejected by God because he had rejected the word of the Lord (1 Sam. 15:26). Having had the kingdom torn from him, he spiraled down into chronic anger and anxiety. In the midst of a personal and national crisis, he sought God’s guidance, but God was silent. His spiritual condition created a frenzied and rebellious action. He sought a spirit medium to contact Samuel who was dead. To his great sorrow, God was not available to meet his problem. God had become Saul’s adversary. The Philistine army would defeat Israel and lead to the death of Saul (1 Sam. 28:19). There are those who panic and act foolishly when God is silent. They fail to realize that the pursuit of the praise of men rather than the approval of God is a story that does not end well. Not all who suffer hardship and loss are candidates for God’s help. There are those who are victims due to their disobedience of God.
