Victory in Battle

“Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.” Romans 7:25

You say you are a Christian, but the battle with your short-fused anger goes on. You can’t seem to break habits that are pulling you down physically and financially. The paradox is that there is ultimate victory promised when we will be free from the very presence of sin upon being with Christ. In the meantime we have a fight on our hands, but a winning one. When we believed in Jesus by faith we were united to Christ who died and arose and a decisive liberation from the dominion of sin happened, whether you felt it or not (Rom. 6:6, 14,17; 8:2). Paul is not saying that the mind is untouched by sin. It is being renewed as we serve the law of God (Rom. 12:1-2). Yet the flesh (our old nature) harasses us all the time trying to bring us down. All this is why Romans 8 (Great Eight!) is begging for our attention. Be encouraged. Immorality, idolatry, strife, jealousy, anger, envying, all the deeds of the flesh, can be overcome. Stay hungry for God and stay resolved with the conviction that what God has said is true and is to be acted upon.
