“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves.” Romans 1:24

For many of us who belong to Jesus Christ, the celebration of the resurrection of the Son of God holds center place in our thoughts. At the same time, there are ugly reminders of the descent of our culture into a moral grave. Space will not be given here to the hubris of those who have immoral agendas. The Holy Spirit, through the apostle Paul, unflinchingly declares three times (“God gave them over” vv. 24, 26, 28) of the different forms of God’s judgment on man’s rebellion against the Creator. We are sitting down to a banquet of consequences of idolatry. This is God’s wrath in action, not merely a passive response on God’s part. Sexual pleasures of any and every kind become an obsession (“lusts”). Sex is made the new god (“impurity”). As a result, the rebels reduce their ability to enjoy life. The body is abused and misused. A new religion replaces the worship of the true and living God. Enslavement to self-worship is disguised as the quest for “freedom.”
The only hope out of this moral morass is the new life found in the resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ.
