Acquitted

“And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” Romans 8:30

To be acquitted is to declare a person not guilty. It is a sweet word, especially for someone who is being tried in a court of law for a crime. The fact is that in this fourth pearl of promise, one of five words to describe God’s work on behalf of His people, we are declared righteous before God. Through faith-alone in Christ-alone the believer is pronounced innocent of all charges. The “call” is the means by which justification is granted on the basis of what Jesus Christ has done by dying in our place on the cross. Have you placed your confidence in Him for the removal of the guilt of sin and the granting of eternal life? One preacher gave this account of speaking to someone who objected to the offer of salvation in Christ. He complained, “You make no provision for human effort in your message. Personally, I believe I am saved by good works!” “Shake hands, brother!” said the preacher. “So do I.” The man was surprised. “You mean you also believe you are saved by good works?” Yes, replied the preacher with a knowing smile. “Jesus’ good works – not mine!”
