“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Too often we let the tides of whatever comes to our minds take over our thought life. The following thoughts about thinking caught my attention. “Repetitive dysfunctional thinking is …a sign of spiritual laziness, failure to work through a mental stuck place to a resolution. It is surfacy thinking that bothers never to get beyond the top layer; an insubstantial foam churned up all the day long. A lot of our thinking is not worthy of the name ‘thinking’” (Andrew Sue Peterson, World Magazine, June 1, 2024). One way to create off-ramps to wasted thinking is meditate on biblical truths. This means being intentional about such a passage concerning the future as Revelation 22:1-5. Read it and ponder the implications of having a future described in terms of when heaven comes to earth. If you belong to Christ, savor the truth that God’s eternal presence will ensure unending fellowship with Him. How might that affect our thoughts, values, and plans for the coming week. Might our petty, stream of consciousness be rerouted to what Christians have to look forward to beyond this life. Think about it and be encouraged.
