“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Have you been hearing lately, mostly from anti-Christian sources, that young people are leaving the church, women are leaving the church. In what appears to be a celebratory spirit, enlightened people groups, so we are told, are walking away from “the organized church.” One wonders where they are going, if indeed the church is the place where God’s Word is being declared. What is there to replace the Word which is full of vital relevance. It always possesses the power to effect its own utterance. There is a warning connected with this assertion. This is no time to chase after the “deceitfulness of sin” (Heb. 3:13). One of the great deceits of our time is the belief that truth resides in one’s emotions. The truth is that “apart from Christian theology there is no sound understanding of the emotions” (Feelings and Faith, Brian S. Borgman) . Fair warning, sharks are in the water. Are we being influenced by our psychologized culture. Feelings are to be submitted to the critiquing power of biblical truth.

“Lord, I pray that you will search my heart to expose those ways by which I am listening to my feelings rather than the truth of God’s Word.”
