“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Let’s slide our tray of receptive thought to the word “active.” The Bible does things. Yes it is alive. It springs into activity in our minds and daily living. This is what Paul meant in 1 Corinthians 1:18 where he says, “…the word of the cross (to those) being saved is the power of God.” It cries out for personal decision to be made in response to its appeals. It changes attitudes. It confronts those of us who are jealous, angry, bitter, unloving. Because of this the Scriptures have been instrumental in great movements of God. It was Martin Luther who said, “I simply taught, preached, wrote God’s Word: otherwise I did nothing. And while I slept, or drank (with my friends), the Word so greatly weakened the papacy that never a Prince or Emperor inflicted such damage upon it, I did nothing. The Word did it all.” Have you found this to be true in your own life? Hopefully, you are part of a church where you are hearing genuine Bible expository preaching.
