To Hate or Not To Hate

“O you who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10

We are to love God and love our neighbor by hating evil. Psalm 97 looks down the corridors of time to the coming of the Lord to establish His kingdom. Until then, hate evil and praise the Lord. We resume the excellent thoughts of the Puritan, Richard Sibbs. (4) “We hate evil by hating sin wherever it is found. We must hate sin in others but especially in ourselves. ‘He that hates a toad would hate it most in his own bosom,’ said Sibbes. ‘Many, like Judah, are severe in censuring others (Gen. 38:24) but partial to themselves.’ (5) We hate evil if we hate the greatest sin in the greatest measure. That is, if we hate all sins in a just proportion, not being offended by the slight flaw in another while overlooking a much greater offense in ourselves.” We will go further with this in the next Morning Minute. Pray to God that He will work to make us strong in fighting evil. Am I offended by all that is opposed to God?
