A Life Well-Lived

“Serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews.” Acts 20:19

There are times in one’s life when it is necessary to look in the mirror and ask, “what is a well-lived life?” Paul, in addressing the elders of the Ephesian church, says what he believes to have been most important of his time with them. In brief, it is that a life that is well-lived is one that is driven by the desire to serve Jesus Christ. What does it mean to be a servant? We are to see ourselves as under the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. We love the Scriptures because we have assumed the responsibility of doing what pleases our Master. Can we honestly say that we are receiving our marching orders from the One who is the Head of church (Col. 1:18). Do we love people because we see ourselves as members of the order of the towel (“Then he poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” Jn. 13:5). If you are looking for an aid to remember people’s names, have the habit of praying for others by name. At this time when many are recommitting themselves to their political parties, we would do well to talk to ourselves about what it means to live the life that is well-lived.
