Watch Those Words

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29

Do you remember those times when you said something and wished you had not? Maybe it was a quick quip that didn’t take into account who was in the range of hearing it. Christianity is a way of speaking. Words that harm can leave wounds that don’t easily heal. How can I be better at saying things that are constructive and not destructive? We can start by judging ourselves before we judge others. Think below the surface. Do I see others as an audience to be entertained by my quick mind and humor? What are my goals and expectations? We need to fill our minds with good thoughts. Is my warehouse of thinking too well supplied with cynicism, sarcasm, and self-centered sentences? Talk to yourself, “is it for the good of others?”
