Influencers for Sin

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,…” 1 Corinthians 6:9

Well known preachers lowering the bar on sexual sin, making allowances for gay and lesbian couples to be married in their churches, condoning “pronoun hospitality” (accommodating transgenders by referring to them by their preferred pronoun). The early church was not left in confusion about the nature of sexual sins. Homosexual (same-sex) desires exist because we are a fallen humanity. We create gods to get what we want (Romans 1:18-32). Homosexual desires, as any sinful desire, must be brought to the foot of the cross and the empty tomb. Homosexual desires are to be subdued by the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of self-control. The Bible has called us to purity and perfections of actions and attitudes, calls us to fight the desire for adultery (Matt. 5:28), coveting (Rom. 7:7-9), to name only a sampling of disordered human nature (i.e., corrupted by sin). In saying these things about same-sex sin, this is not to single out only these sins as worthy of condemnation. The truth is, in the words of J.I. Packer, “The only sinner who can successfully battle his sins is a justified sinner.” Is the good news of repentance, faith, and forgiveness in Jesus Christ on our minds consistently?
