“Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!” Psalm 135:3
August 28, 2024
Yes, God is good. This has become an often used summation of the character of God, especially if we have experienced what we consider the smile of God’s providence (a good report from the doctor who tells you that the tumor was benign). The psalmist was ecstatic over God having chosen Israel as His covenant people. The word “good” in the dictionary has no less than seventeen variations of usage of the word (e.g., excellent, as a thing ought to be, what is approved, well-behaved, kind, doing right, beneficial, etc.). We can say in our response to God’s declared goodness that it is what He approves. God is the full measure of all His perfections. However, in the final analysis, ultimately everything that happens to us is good from God’s standpoint. Read Romans 8:28. We can pursue that thought in the next MM. For your morning worship, make a list of some of the things that have been beneficial or advantageous to you. Praise the Lord for each of them.
