Seeing God

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8

Moses wanted to see God’s glory. Request denied (Ex. 33:20). He was only allowed to see “the after effects” of God’s glory. On the other hand Jesus tells that the pure in heart can see God. Jesus’ disciples have “eyes” of the heart by which God can be seen in Christ. The pure in heart are those whose pursuit of purity and uprightness affects every area of life. Our obedience to God and purity of life give us increased perception as to who God is and what delights Him. The only way to have a pure heart is to realize that we have an impure heart, and to mourn about it to such an extent that sinful hindrances to spiritual insight are eliminated. Lest we forget, seeing God is experiencing Him in the fullness of all that He is as God. I am pure in heart when I am in an intense pursuit of holiness of life.
