Distracted by Christmas

“He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David.” Luke 1:32

What?! It is possible, but not preferable, to have our attention drawn away from the real meaning of the Christmas season. Our secular culture does a good job of that. What meaningful habits can we cultivate in our Christmas experience that revolve around the glory of the birth of Jesus Christ? The angel, Gabriel, said to Mary that “He will be great.” Jesus was great because of who He was and what He would do. The prophet Isaiah (Isa. 9:6-7) spoke of Mary’s baby as the “Wonderful Counselor.” This tells us of His genius. No human I.Q. can come anywhere near that of the “Son of the Most High.” Think of His power, “Mighty God.” He fights for His people. He was to defeat the evil one and all evil. His provision is magnificent, “Eternal Father.” He is the protector of His people. Mary gave birth to the “Prince of Peace.” He dealt with the root of war, sin. He makes peace with His own blood. Isn’t He remarkable? There is no one like Him. Take time each day to offer praise to God for the birth of the Savior of the world. Don’t be distracted.
