The Inheritance

“But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” Hebrews 1:2

How would you like to be an heir to a new world where everything is alright? In a single sentence to the opening of the book of Hebrews to Hebrew Christians, the supremacy of Jesus Christ is stated spectacularly. He is highly qualified to be, without comparison to anyone and anything in the universe. Jesus is the heir of all things. And – get this! – we can be joint-heirs with Him. The idea of the heirship of the Son is drawn from Psalm 2, which is joined to the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth. The Messiah is granted the earth and its people for His inheritance. Jesus spoke of this in Matthew 25:34, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” It was the resurrection of Jesus from the dead that was the occasion for Adam’s lost dominion to be retaken by Christ. The full and final possession “of all things” awaits the Messianic kingdom. Rejoice in this dear child of God. What a hope!
