A recent clip from a past Academy Award celebration revealed an extended crescendo of applause for an aging actress. What is there about human beings who can lavish such praise of the famous? Appreciation for work well done is a faintly mirrored reflection of why we were created. There is one who deserves the adulation of ever widening circles of praise to God which sweeps through heaven and the entire universe (Rev. 5:12-13). Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God, deserves to open the scroll, the title deed of the universe, because He alone is the radiance of God’s perfections, greatness, and excellency in His glorified humanity forever. “Power” – Jesus possesses omnipotent power. He has the ability to do whatever is necessary in fulfilling the redemptive plan of God. He possesses all the wealth of the Godhead. He knows all things and how all things function and brings by His intelligence all things to the fulfillment of God’s eternal purposes. Might, honor, and glory, like the credits at the end of a movie. This Good Friday and Easter Sunday pull back the curtain for all to rise and give a standing ovation for a magnificent performance in having suffered death and crowned with glory by His resurrection.
