Our Days and the Days of Noah

“Because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.” 1 Peter 3:20

Jesus told His disciples, “For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man” (Matt. 24:37). The strange thing about it was that though human civilization was plagued by evil (gangs of evil human monsters), life went on with normal day to day activities. The perversion and wickedness of the pre-flood world became notorious in the annals of redemptive history. The attempt of Satan and his demons was to destroy the Messianic line and even the Messiah Himself. But God’s judgment descended upon God-rejecting humanity. It was in this context of time that Jesus made a victorious proclamation to those demonic powers after His triumph on the cross (Col. 2:15). We as God’s people today are to be reminded that God uses unjust persecution in a powerful way to highlight His holy purposes. Don’t be discouraged by the comparatively few who survived the world-wide Flood. God was patient and offered grace to all men (120 years), but none heeded. Suffering as a minority must not be interpreted as defeat. The Lord Jesus Christ was victorious over all sin, demons, Satan, and suffering. Take heart, dear Christian, take heart.
