What About the Jew?

I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin.” Romans 11:1

Antisemitism is everywhere in the news today. However, it is not a new moral issue. The hatred of the Jew is thousands of years old. All of which brings up a vital question. What is God’s role for the Jew in world history? The Old Testament is a story about the Jewish people. They were called into being by God to be a witness to the nations about God’s salvation (Gen. 12:1-3; Ex. 19:5-6). From the Jew would come their Messiah and the Savior of the world. Sadly, the nation rejected the Messiah. But this did not mean that God is through with the Jew. No chapter in the Bible is more important than Romans 11 in speaking to Israel’s future. The apostle Paul presents himself as exhibit A to prove the believing remnant of Jews, of which Paul was a part, was a witness that Israel’s unbelief was not total. There are Jews who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah of the Old Testament. There is more to the story of Israel’s future. But the believing remnant of born again Jews is a witness to the truth that God will never forsake the Abrahamic Covenant (MIc. 2:12-13; Rom. 9:27; 11:5). Make it a commitment to pray for the Jews you know whether in your personal connections or in the wider world.

“How odd of God to choose the Jew. But not so odd as those who choose the Jewish God and hate the Jew.”
