“So Jesus again said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.'” John 10:7

A story and an illustration. This is the way to unlock the connection and meaning of John 9 and 10. First, in chapter 9 a blind man is given his sight by Jesus. As a result, he believes in Jesus and worships Him (9:38). Then comes the explanation of what has happened in John 9:1-41. The shepherd forms his flock in the morning. If you read 10:1-6, you will see how prominent the “door” is. Jesus places Himself in the position of the door to the sheepfold. It is midday (vv. 7-10) and the flock goes in and out of the fold. What is the point? As the door, Jesus is the only way to salvation and the only way to the enjoyment of life that is really life. Such was the experience of the blind man. He left the Judaism that had failed him and the leaders who of the nation who had not cared for his spiritual well-being. Safety, security, and enjoyment of the nourishment of coming in and out to find pasture. That is Jesus. Have you found Him to be the Shepherd who truly cares for you and all your needs?
