Both Sides-ism

“And he said, ‘No; but I am the commander of the army of the LORD. Now I have come.’ And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, ‘What does my lord say to his servant?'” Joshua 5:14

Israel had a formidable task before them, the walled city of Jericho. Joshua was thinking of battle plans. Suddenly the captain of the Lord of Hosts with a drawn sword stood before him. Joshua said, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” The answer was the real question, one thing was required. Was Joshua on the side of the Lord? Jesus is the commander-in-chief. It was His war. The issue before us in our present cultural climate is that we Christians must depend on the Lord to win battles in spiritual warfare. The truth that is decisive is found in God’s Word. To plead that some truth is found on both sides is a moral disaster. Are we following Christ’s orders? “The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4). The false claims of the world’s wisdom do not justify finding middle ground. One thing is required of God’s people, worship and submission to the Lord of armies.

“I praise you, Lord, that I do not bear the responsibility alone to fight your battles. Grant me the courage and mental toughness to be your kind of warrior.”
