“So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the LORD.” Isaiah 37:20

God in His infinite wisdom, love, and sovereignty over all the circumstances of life will place us in situations where we realize our dependence on Him. Hezekiah, king of Israel, had only a wall that stood between him and those who wished to destroy him. What did he do? He prayed (Isa. 37:16-20). So must we when we are overwhelmed by the “what-ifs” of life. Fourthly, we are to bring to our prayer a deep sense of need and revulsion at sin. The Assyrian idolatrous storm troopers needed to be put in their place. Fifthly, we should cultivate a prayer reflex to the pressures of life. We are in a spiritual warfare with Satan and his armies. Sixthly, expect a response from God, though it is not always dramatically immediate like Hezekiah’s predicament. Seventhly, prayer is not a substitute for personal initiative. Hezekiah built a water conduit (the besieged needed water and keep it from the enemy (2 Chron.32:1-23). We must not waste a crisis by failing to seek the Lord God. The kingdoms of this world need to know that our God reigns in heaven above.

“O Sovereign Lord over all the earth, work in me a more vigorous and consistent prayer life. I want to know you in deeper ways when I am faced with the problems of life.”
