When God Doesn’t Come Through

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

November 14, 2025

The word “faith” is thrown around as if it says enough about a person, e.g. “He is a man of faith.” However, the question remains, faith in what or whom? Hebrews 11 comes on the heels of chapter 10 where it says, “Do not throw away your confidence” (10:35). Faith is our response to God’s revelation. He is worthy of our complete trust. Before we examine Hebrews 11:1, four characteristics of faith fly on the biblical banner over us. Sometimes faith changes our circumstances. Note the list of things God did as a result of faith (e.g. the walls of Jericho fell down). Sometimes faith does not change our circumstances. Other believers were tortured and put to death (11:31-38). Faith never judges God by circumstances. Don’t get your theology from your emotions. It has been said that “faith isn’t merely receiving from God the things we want. It is the ability to receive what God gives us.” Faith always leads to ultimate victory. On the way to the cross Jesus said, ”nevertheless Thy will be done.” The disappointments in life, if not handled according to faith, can lead to defeat and defection. Are you taking seriously what God has said in His Word, the Bible?
