“and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness” 2 Peter 1:6

We have another petal in the blooming flower of a God-pleasing life. It is the development of a passion to know God and His Word. The God-pleasing life is to be lavishly furnished with a love for God and His law. Godliness is that which arises out of the heart that has a deep reverence that seeks God in all things. Beware of counterfeit godliness. Speaking only of someone as a “person of faith” is not enough. Faith in whom? Godliness is a robust, full-bodied, truth-filled mind with behavior that sends a message. It is the virtual presence of Christ in the totality of one’s life. True godliness doesn’t play games with God’s Word, denying it here and there, adjusting it to fit one’s pleasures, attempting to create one’s identity by feelings. Significantly, godliness of the child of God is contrasted to ungodly false teachers (2 Pet. 2:6; 3:7), who practice sexual perversion and celebrate it by claiming it as freedom and honesty. We must say it again. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the desires of the new nature, and serious effort, we are to look at life through God’s eyes. It is to be like God. Is that not a humbling challenge?

Reflections: How are the hardships I am dealing with bringing God’s presence into the no-matter-what’s of life?
Are my spouse and/or those closest to me being made aware of what God is like?
