“By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau.” Hebrews 11:20

Back when trolley cars served the pedestrian population of the city of Atlanta transfer tickets were necessary to move from one trolley route to another. In the hall of faith Isaac is singled out for his transference of God’s promises from one generation to the next. In Jacob’s case he had a desire that the purpose of God would be fulfilled. The Word of God meant something to him. Isaac believed the promises of God made to Abraham. He wanted them transmitted to his sons. Isaac was a second generation believing man. Maybe you are one of those in your family. You and I must think inter-generationally as we cherish the promises of God. The mother of Augustine, a famous early century theologian, prayed long to God for her morally wayward son. Her faith was recompensed by his conversion. What am I doing to transfer my faith in God’s promises to the next generation in my family? What kind of example am I setting in the pursuit of God? Do I pray regularly for my children and grandchildren?

Reflection:
Have I allowed the sins and failures of my children to chill my desire for their best future with God?
Do I take time to speak of God’s promises to those who believe in Christ?
