“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!” Romans 11:33

Thanks be to God that we can know Him. However, He is incomprehensible. We can never fully understand any single thing about God. “He that fills heaven and earth cannot be contained in anything. . . He is known by faith, enjoyed by love, but comprehended by no mind” (Stephen Charnock). The apostle Paul uses an exclamation (“Oh”) to express the mental and emotional heights in praising God for the depth (HIs hiddenness). Like the seven miles down in the deepest part of the ocean, there is more truth down there than we can handle. We will never be able to know “too much” about God, even in eternity. Yet at the same time we can know God truly – not just know about Him. My wife and I can know one another, but never comprehend one another. This can be evident when we are both in the kitchen together. 😊
God’s wisdom guarantees that He makes the best choices in carrying out His goals. We can trust Him.

“John Calvin said that God speaks to us in a kind of lisping. As parents engage in ‘baby talk’ when addressing their infant children, so God, in order to communicate with us lowly mortals, must condescend to speak to us in lisps.” Reformation Study Bible
