“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26

Jesus told us to look at the birds. They tell us stories about God. Margaret Clarkson has a delightful little book, All Nature Sings. One chapter is “On Knowing Birds.” Recently a wren was found on our screened-in-porch floor. The Carolina Wren with its joyful song (‘the tea-kettle” song) loves nesting close to humans. They love flower pots, cozy corners in a garage, bushes next to the house, and porches. According to Clarkson, some birds are timid, some are show-offs; some are wise, others stupid. The wren sings to us and loves to be near to us. Getting to know birds (best done in solitude) can be nurturing to the soul. Ask those of us advanced in years. Getting to know God, too, is something that must be done alone. Do you want to be close to God, know Him. Are you willing to spend time alone in the presence of God, seeking Him in His Word with the guidance of the Holy Spirit?
That little wren had been spending a lot time around us. It was sad to see it lifeless. Come to think about it, wanting to be close to God is a wonderful way to finish our time in this life.

Reflections:
Select a bird and discover a way it says something about God and our relationship to Him.
