Hard hearts don’t ring the bell of praise to God. We saw this in our discussion of Psalm 95. We must remember that worship begins with listening then speaking. Hearing and obeying God’s Word results in praising God joyfully. We find Psalm 95 being quoted in Hebrews 3:7-4:13 four times. The wilderness wanderings of the children of Israel and their hard hearts stand as a warning to followers of Jesus Christ. A hard heart is one that says to God, let me alone (do not disturb). The only hope for a hard heart is the double-edged sword of God’s Word. It is living and full of vital relevance. It speaks meaningfully to a community of believers that have become careless in its attitude toward the word of promise expressed in Scripture. How is your hearing? Oh the danger of being deaf to the sufficiency of God’s Word as we try to work through the trials of life while not feeding on the truth that has come down out of heaven.
