A Double-Edged Sword

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Scripture is pictured as beyond every sword in its sharpness. The Word of God is penetrating in its operation. It probes and exposes, reaching into the deepest recesses of the human personality. Too many Christians try to understand themselves by the latest therapy fads. Given the popularity of psychology in counsel, keep this wisdom in mind; “Psychology per se is neither the devil nor God but how you respond to the devil’s sayings and doings, the things in you that make the lie natural or alien” (Psychology & Christianity, David Powlison, p. 198). God’s holy Word is able to discriminate successfully between what is spiritual in man and what is merely “soulish or natural.” Carefully studied and understood only the Word of God can adequately probe and expose the motives involved that lead to hardness of heart and self-deception.
