“And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”‘ Luke 12:19

Decades ago there was a TV series called “The Millionaire.” A million dollars was then considered quite a sum of money. In every episode a gift of one million dollars was delivered to an unsuspecting person. What would you do if you were given a million dollars? Jesus told a story about a rich man who had far more money than he needed. He made big plans for his future, but forgot to factor in one thing. He hadn’t counted on death. God said to him, “Fool! This night your soul will be required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” Greed tells a dark story. There is no acknowledgment of God, no thought of tomorrow. It is selfish. The rich man missed the joy of generous giving. Death carries us to an eternity of consequences. Is Jesus Christ our greatest treasure? Are we using what material wealth we have to benefit others. Generosity doesn’t get us to heaven. However, it can make us rich toward God. Are we good managers of the resources God has given us? Everything we own belongs to God. Every time we give, we declare that money does not control us.
