A Sanctified Grief

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

Are you grieving over our nation? The cultural winds are blowing strongly against the thought and ways of God. Many evils could be cited, but especially brutal is the celebration of being unfettered from a sense of moral responsibility to babies in the womb. The results are in. State after state have embraced the cult of death. It would appear that the political aspirations of any outspoken advocate of pro-life is doomed. It is a time to grieve. The centerpiece of the book of Lamentations, with its five poems of the grief-stricken, is chapter 3:22-24. Like an oasis in a desert of lament is the comfort that a sanctified grief runs to the sanctuary of God’s perfections. It sees God as an ally not as an enemy. Sit down by this thought for awhile. The torn and discarded bodies of babies must not blind us to the Lord’s loyal kindness. The word here is khesed. It is exquisite, telling us of the infinite riches of God’s love that can never be cut off (“never ceases”). While the masses are jubilant over the perceived sole ownership of their bodies, pray that those yet conceived and unborn will live to praise their Creator.
There is a grief that Jesus grieved that overcomes the loneliest of graves.

Grieve for our nation that knows not how to grieve for all we’ve lost when God is abandoned.
