A Stumbling Block

“So Aaron said to them, ‘Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.'” Exodus 32:2

Imagine being disobedient to God and becoming the occasion for causing tens of thousands of people to sin against God. It happened. The corruption of Aaron’s mental and physical skills and the influence this had upon Israel is a tragic story. Talk about feet of clay, which is finding in a person, whom we admire and respect, a character or behavioral flaw that causes God’s people to stumble by making wrong decisions. Aaron, God’s priest, led Israel in turning to the bull-god to lead them in violation of God’s command (Ex. 20:2). To have feet of clay serves as a caution to us that we may become an obstacle to the faith of fellow Christians. Is there behavior in my own life that could cause believers to stumble and disobey God? There are far too many Christians who have allowed disappointment in a Christian leader or someone respected in the faith to contribute to disillusionment about Christianity.
