“The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.” Proverbs 16:4

“If there is a single event in all the universe that can occur outside of God’s sovereign control, then we cannot trust Him” (Jerry Bridges). Does that statement calm you? Hopefully, it does. Let your mind walk down this line of truth. God is in control of all the angels. This includes Satan, all fallen angels, and elect angels (Matt. 25:41; Rev. 5:8-13). Human responsibility is under God’s control. Nothing happens until it is filtered through God’s permissive will. Every governmental leader functions according to God’s sovereign control. The king of Babylon had to learn this the hard way (Dan. 4:17). A severe mental disorder humbled the ancient king. Our salvation comes about because of God’s sovereign choosing of us (Jn. 15:16; Eph. 1:4). We believed, but God made it possible. Our birthday and all the circumstances of life are under God’s sovereign direction (Psa. 139:13). Genetics and environment influences are orchestrated by God. All tragedies and the pressures of life reflect God’s absolute and final control. Every believer in Jesus Christ can live with the assurance that “for those who love God all things work together for good” (Rom. 8:28). Why can God do all these things? Because He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and absolutely free. How then should we live knowing all this? That’s to be pursued tomorrow.

“O Father, You are sovereign in all affairs of man; No powers of death or darkness can thwart your perfect plan. All chance and change transcending, Supreme in time and space, You hold your trusting children secure in your embrace.”
Margaret Clarkson, “Sovereign Lord!”
